Getting Married in Korea Pt.2 (suit and hanboks)

after nailing down our venue and date, we didn't do much for the next couple months.  we had already booked a 스드메 (studio/dress/makeup) package through our planner during our first meeting.
around the end of January we met with the planner to check out getting a custom suit and hanboks made.  unfortunately we didn't really do our research so I'm not sure if we got the best deal on the suit.  it ended up being a little more than a million won, but looks great and is apparently is Italian silk.  a friend of mine had his wedding suit made for a similar price, but his also included some altering to change it from a tux to a suit.  we just got the suit and a custom shirt.  the store we got everything from is called Baton Kwonohsoo located off apgujeong rodeo.  although pricey, the service there was top notch.

next we visited a hanbok shop, also in apgujeong.  we had an idea of how much hanboks should cost so we were blown away when they told us their price.  they offered us a "good deal" for 2 hanboks, for 600,000 won each.  this was for the high quality fabrics.  none of the cheaper fabrics were really offered as options and they kind of turned their nose up at them.  also, rental hanboks were 300,000!  when the woman asked me what my favorite color was, i said green or blue and she was like oh no you must get a warm tone.  i understand that the tradition is for brides to wear red or pink, but then why even ask me?  i didn't like any of the color combinations she showed me, which were mostly just different shades of pink. if they would have offered us some cheaper options, we probably would have just bought them there.  alas, they didn't so we ran away from there without making any commitments.

we ended up going to a place that was recommended by friends in the hanbok market in gwangjang market called 명문주단.  when you enter the market and turn left, it's the first stall on the right.  we got mine and my MIL mid range for about 400,000 won.  we also got one for sh, my mom, and my aunt for about 200,000 won each, cheaper than the rentals at the other place.  the business is run by a woman and her son who were both great to work with.  i got the colors i wanted and we got 5 hanboks for almost the price of 2 in apgujeong.
