Getting Married in Korea (timeline)

Just to give an idea of when things happened for us.  I know it can vary a little based on what kind of wedding you're having.  Personally, I think everything in Korea is generally a little last minute.  I don't know why we can't just plan things ahead of time.  Throughout the whole wedding planning process, I always felt like I would have liked something to happen at least a couple weeks earlier than it did.


09/2015- start searching for venues

09/2015- attend a wedding fair

10/2015- visit and contract wedding planner

10/31/2015- visit and contract wedding venue (restaurant)

11-12/2015- do nothing

01/2016- meet with wedding planner to visit suit and hanbok stores- contract custom suit

End 01/2016- contract bride and groom hanboks and rings

Beginning 02/2016- suit fitting

02/12/2016- visit dress store to pick dresses for studio photos

02/20ish/2016- pick up final suit and hanboks- order hanboks for mothers and aunt

02/25/2016- studio photo shoot

02/29/2016- go to US Embassy and register marriage paperwork at Jongno-gu office (we did it early because I had vacation time then)

02/29/2016- submit first draft of invitation

03/09/2016- complete order for final draft of invitations

03/12/2016- lunch with Minister for wedding

03/13/2016- go back to photo studio to pick photos for album

03/20/2016- pick up mothers/aunt's hanboks and pick up rings

04/04/2016- order extra invitation envelopes

04/16/2016- order cupcakes for wedding

04/19/2016- concept meeting with wedding planner to talk about theme/colors/flowers/ceremony

04/20/2016- find out our venue is DOUBLE BOOKED!!

04/21/2016- visit dress store to pick dress for actual wedding day

04/22/2016- Hong Kong bachelorette trip

04/26/2016- visit new venue option and cancel previous venue contract

04/27/2016- send out CHANGE OF ADDRESS texts and messages to guests

05/06/2016- one last visit to wedding planner for concept meeting for the new venue AND revise final draft of wedding ceremony script (we spent a lot of time really trying to come up with a good mix of both Korean and English)

05/14/2016- WEDDING!
