Getting Married in Korea Pt.3 (rings)

After getting the clothing situation figured out, we moved on to rings.  I originally wanted to get a moissanite engagement ring from America, but that never ended up happening when I went home last since we hadn't really started planning the wedding yet.  In the end, I'm glad I didn't get a flashy ring.  Korean women rarely even wear their wedding bands so you can't even tell who's married and who's not.  I feel like I would have almost felt ashamed to wear around a big rock.

I had found a store called Maison De M online that I thought looked nice.  So we made our way over to the Jewelry City building in Jongno, nearby Jongno 5-ga or Euljiro 4-ga.  When you first walk in, there are tons of jewelry counters which mainly had couple rings.  When we asked a couple stalls if the rings were made of gold, they said no.  We eventually found the jewelry store we had been looking for in the basement, but the door was locked.  Someone came to the door and told us that we needed an appointment to come in!  Seriously?

We went across the hall to another place called Grid Jewelry.  A really nice guy sat us down to look at "wedding rings," basically engagement rings.  Once we described what we wanted, we moved to look at the couple rings.  I ended up getting a thin rose gold band with half eternity diamonds which was not a couple ring option.  My husband got a plain couple ring band in rose gold to match mine.  It was really nice because even if the rings we looked at weren't made of the materials we wanted, he was able to have them made the way we wanted.  The ring I picked was made with cubic zirconia, but he said they could put the real deal for about 25,000 won per tiny diamond.  I'm pretty sure we saw both of our rings in silver or white gold in the store too.  We were able to pick the rings up about a month later.  All together, it was about 900,000 won which I thought was a reasonable price.  He also offered to lend us a tiara and earrings/necklace for our studio photo shoot.  We went by the store to get the rental pieces before the shoot and mailed them back to the store afterwards.
