White Day

I had a lovely White Day yesterday.

"White Day is also observed in South Korea with the men paying back women who have given them chocolate on Valentine's Day with usually candy instead of chocolate, with an additional later Black Day observed for those sharing singleness."

I received some strawberry candy and 2 bottles of wine^^ Also, we ordered some sushi and donkatsu (which I have eaten 3 times in the past 2 weeks). I love Korean delivery food!

Back at school

We've been back at school for 2 weeks now and man, is it exhausting.  My schedule this year is pretty awesome though.  I get to teach 3rd/4th grade twice a week and only have to teach 5th/6th grade once a week.  The past 2 years, I always dreaded teaching 6th grade so seeing them only once a week is amazing!  I'm hoping they will be better behaved since they will only be seeing my face on Fridays (which makes for a busy Friday, but I'll take it!).  Starting to settle in for the long haul..no vacation now for a looong time ㅠㅠ. .except for a random Wednesday off for elections next month.

1st day

It's the first day of school for the new year (yes, on a Friday, figures..).  It unexpectedly started raining on the way to school so I really hope it stops by the time I can leave.  I walked into my classroom this morning to see that my old co-teacher had finally come to move her stuff to her new homeroom (thank God she got what she wanted).  I'm not sure when she did this because I was here Mon-Weds until lunch time, and as of Weds, her stuff was all still here.  I can only assume she came on Weds afternoon after I was already gone, but luckily she didn't bring it up.

Anyway, I came to my classroom and started shuffling through old papers and books when my old co-teacher came running in and told me to follow her with my attendance book.  We started going downstairs with some students following us.  We ran into a new male teacher on the way who  I automatically assumed was my new co-teacher (because of the way she introduced us without saying what his job is, it seemed logical..it wasn't until this afternoon that I started second guessing this assumption because, of course, Korean schools are not always logical.  I'm still hopeful he is my co-teacher, although I haven't been introduced to anyone else so I could be right).

We went  into the main office which was full of new students and their parents and the vice principal was too busy to sign my stupid attendance book so we went to see the principal who was all bundled up and obviously sick.  Nobody ended up signing my book and my old co-teacher took it with her to her new classroom so I'm not sure what happened to it.  The good thing is that she is still my "handler" and I will go to her to sign off on vacation time etc. instead of the vice principal, who I'm kinda afraid of so that's great.

My contract co-teacher is still here, and she is moving her stuff from the subject teacher's room to mine, but she's been pretty MIA all day.  She was actually messaging me on the school messenger system from downstairs and I was pretty confused as to whether it was her or somebody else sending the messages.  This is what the desk looked like until after lunch today..

I still haven't been given a class schedule or text books.  One of my friends starts class on Monday so I really hope I'm not in the same position because I am clearly not prepared.  Overall, just another day in a Korean elementary school..

Impulse buys..

When we were leaving China, I actually had a lot of cash left so while Tony was buying a bottle of Jameson (difficult to find in Korea), I decided to scoop up this guy for under 20,000won.  Thank you duty-free!

On Monday, I went to lunch with my friend at California Pizza Kitchen and then went to Lotte Mart.  I unexpectedly bought a new folding chair and a rice cooker.  Best decision ever.  My new chair is the bomb.  Going home in the taxi with this chair was awesome too.
